The Task

As the principal, you do observations of your teachers. One day, you visit Mrs. Allen's 11th grade English class. They are reading The Scarlet Letter, and as you arrive for the observation, Mrs. Allen provides you with her lesson plan for the day. Click here to review her lesson plan. (You might want to save or print a copy for reference as you go through the webquest.) Once you've had a chance to look at her plan, return here to rate it.

What do you think about Mrs. Allen's plan?

1. This is an excellent plan.
2. This is a pretty good plan.

3. This plan needs some improvement.
4. This plan is really bad.

So...how did you do? Did you recognize all the problems with Mrs. Allen's plan? Mrs. Allen needs help and as the principal of the building, you're the one who has to help her. Since few school divisions have resources like English supervisors or lead teachers in English, this becomes the principal's responsibility. That might leave you feeling a little overwhelmed, particularly if you aren't certified in English and really don't know much about how to teach that subject.

During the process part of this webquest, you will learn step by step how to help Mrs. Allen improve her lesson planning using a variety of Internet resources. Click here to start the process.
